WANTED! Enthusiastic, Committed PASS Leaders for ACTL1001!

The School of Actuarial Studies is seeking PASS Leaders to conduct PASS study sessions in Semester 2 for first year students in ACTL1001 Actuarial Studies and Commerce.

About PASS
The Australian School of Business PASS (Peer Assisted Support Scheme) Program has traditionally provided voluntary group study sessions for students in core first year courses, which are conducted by upper level students who have achieved highly in the subject and are attuned to the needs of commencing students.
PASS sessions are not tutorials or coaching sessions. PASS complements tutorials by giving students more opportunity to ask questions and work collaboratively to find answers in an informal, non-threatening environment.
PASS leaders also draw on their own experience to help students to develop independent study skills and effective approaches to learning.
PASS can significantly enhance the learning experience of first year students. PASS Leaders also benefit greatly, developing a deeper academic understanding of the field as well as teamwork, interpersonal and leadership skills. Many PASS Leaders go on to become tutors in the Faculty.
Main Responsibilities of PASS Leaders
¬ To prepare and conduct one or more one hour PASS study sessions perweek;
¬ To attend weekly team meetings and provide weekly reflective reports to the Academic Co-ordinator
¬ To assist with monitoring attendance and evaluating the program.

Selection Criteria
Essential
¬ Sound academic record (preferably a Distinction average) with at least a Distinction in ACTL1001;
¬ Excellent communication skills;
¬ Well-developed interpersonal skills;
¬ Understanding of the needs of first year students.

Highly desirable
¬ Experience in leading groups and/or study sessions.

Leaders are trained by the EDU (Education Development Unit) and remunerated (at the rate for Casual General Staff, Level 3, Step 1).
