Unfortunately, applications closed on Sunday 11th of October 2009. ASOC would like to invite all eligible members to apply for ASOC executive committee positions for 2010. Being an ASOC executive member requires a heavy commitment throughout the whole year. Successful candidates should be willing to put the effort in to ensure ASOC runs most efficiently to benefit its members. The positions will suit persons who are well organized, responsible and dedicated.
We encourage all eligible members to have a think about whether they would like to apply. It's definitely a worthwhile experience, where you will be given the opportunity to elevate ASOC to new heights. If you would like to find out more about the respective positions, please feel free to contact the current executives. Please read all the information below carefully before applying. General overview of tasks and responsibilities of execsThe descriptions below are quick overviews of the positions. Please refer to the attached roles and responsibilities of ASOC execs document for detailed descriptions.- President - providing guidance and supervision for the executive body and ASOC. Also required to represent ASOC at various external meetings.
- Vice President Internal - liaises with the university including the Arc, ASB, School of Actuarial Studies and other internal entities.
- Vice President External - responsible for ASOC’s relationship with the industry and various sponsor firms
- Treasurer - managing the society’s finances, being responsible for designing and implementing ASOC’s budget
- Secretary - provides the administrative backbone of the society, including organising volunteers and arranging bookings
- Marketing - leads marketers from all year levels and is responsible for promoting all of ASOC’s events
- Social - responsible for all social events and supervise various event coordinators
- Sports - organizes all sporting events, such as the soccer and basketball competitions
- Peer Support - organizing peer mentoring, PASS classes for all the year levels, VBA sessions as well as managing the tutors for the classes
- Publications – overlooks a team of graphics designers to produce FAB newsletter and advertisements
- IT – looks after the IT infrastructure of the society, designing and maintaining the website and its mailing lists
General Eligibility Criteria- All applicants must be ASOC members, ie he/she must be a student studying at the School of Actuarial studies in 2010.
- All applicants must have previous ASOC volunteering experience.
Role-specific Criteria- Applicants for Social Director – must be on campus for the full year. This is because Social Director is responsible for all ASOC social events including daytime activities (such as BBQs, and Pizza Days). As the social director need to be present at all the social events, it is necessary for him/her to be available on campus during the day.
- Applicants for President – must be a current or previous executive member. This criteria is in place, because the president needs to have a complete understanding of the internal operations of ASOC before he/she will be able to lead the organization to fulfil responsibilities and requirements set out in the regulations document.
Additional Information
- Any candidates promoting
themselves in an unfair manner which disturbs the integrity and
fairness of the election, or conducts themselves in a manner which
brings ASOC into disrepute, will be penalised according to the
discretion of the election committee. The penalty may include
disqualification of the candidate from the election.
- The election is to be held at
AGM in Week 12, the date and location will be advised closer to the
date. The availability of an online proxy voting system will be
confirmed closer to the date.
- Voting system will be optional preferential ballot. The ballot counting rules are published in the ASOC regulations document. Please click here for a copy of Election Regulations extract.
- The returning officer is
Michael Zhou (incumbent president). The Election committee is comprised
of Michael Zhou (president), Sally Hsieh (VP Internal), Stephanie Wong
(VP External), Jonathan Shen (Treasurer).

Application Procedure- Please submit your application via the webform below. You may apply for as many positions as you wish. However you need to submit a separate form for each position.
- Please then send a photo of yourself to elections@asoc.unsw.edu.au to be included with the candidate statements.
- Please include in the candidate statement, any major commitments which would have a considerable impact on the candidates’ ability to fulfil their role or interrupt their term. (eg going on Exchange, working full-time, etc)
