President's Welcome

Hi everyone,

Before I say anything else, I would like to say how delighted I am to be part of this year's ASOC Exec team. I hope that the Exec team for 2008 will be able to deliver student services which Actuarial students need as we progress through our demanding, but rewarding degree. I also feel very honoured to elected to lead this wonderful society.

The Actuarial Society (a.k.a ASOC) is a student society which is tailored towards Actuarial students at UNSW. Our aim is "to guide and facilitate a supportive, social and united Actuarial student community on campus". We do this through a wide range of student services. This semester, we will have a number of existing and new activities on show. Events such as BBQs, Peer Mentoring, the ASOC Apprentice, Inter-varsity and Inter-society events will be sure to spice things for the year. The Peer Support Sessions for first and second year actuaries will attempt to aid you with your studies so you will have more time to engage in extracurricular activities. Futhermore, we will have a number of seminars featuring representatives from the actuarial industry, increasing your exposure to potential future employers.

Our society would not be able to run without your generous help. As you may be aware, I am very keen to get everyone involved and not to contribute to our society by volunteering at our events. This society has also been shaped through the ideas that came from you - our members. Therefore, if you would like to share your ideas and thoughts, or contribute to our society, we would love to hear from you. I also believe that by contributing to our society you will gain and learn new skills and abilities.

In closing, welcome back to uni. The executive team wishes you all the best for the upcoming year. The easiest way to contact us it to email our mail email account (mail@asoc.unsw.edu.au)  or you can email the executives at their corresponding email accounts. On behalf of the executive, we look forward to serving you in 2008.

Cheers,

Albert Suryadi
